Normal Guides: NYC Part 1
Part 1 of our guide for furniture & home decor sourcing in New York, and announcements on upcoming events!
Hi everyone! It's been a BUSY past two weeks getting ready to launch many important and long-awaited projects for May and June. This week's newsletter will bring you all the tease for upcoming estate sales and markets, our new website and some of my recent personal home search / explorations for my own home in LA.
Ever since I moved to LA, my personal dream has been moving to a mid-century house, however it's very rare to come across one as a rental at a fairly good price that doesn't need an extra renovation. I also always say that if the base of the house is good, it'll immediately give direction and inspiration to how to furnish the space. For example, when I first saw my current home, I immediately knew the furniture had to be darker brown tones, lots of wood and burgundy / burnt orange / beige colors.
I take big decisions rather quickly then figure out how to move forward. I saw probably one of my dream listings last week for an apartment that checked so many of my boxes, although it was in Brentwood and much smaller than my current space. Despite that, I toured and fell in love with the architecture and details of the mid century home. It’s always been a dream of mine to live in a house made by one of the iconic LA designers and this place just came onto my path, leading me to apply and consider becoming a west side girl.
I never had gotten more messages for my stories ever, this apartment got so much love and some people even said if there should be the perfect owner to a place, I'm that perfect match for this place. Here's some photos as we all adore this eye candy:
Speaking of beautiful work, our website has been getting a complete overhaul this week to make it more streamlined and simple to use, especially when it comes to market announcements, vendor applications, and design clients. Monday will be a big announcement day for June markets, launching the new website too.
We also spent a lot of time kicking off the official preparation for our upcoming Newport Beach estate sale. We visited Shannon, Founder of Prairie Interiors, at her home this week with my dear friend and photographer Brian Chorski to photograph the space and it really just speaks for itself. More details on this estate sale below :)
Additionally, we’ve found some of the most iconic locations for the next round of markets and can’t wait to continue expanding this side of Normal - make sure to keep reading to see where. All of this expansion really brings me back to my roots of starting Normal from my Brooklyn apartment in 2020 and remembering all of the local shops, small businesses, and other city staples that really were the base of Normal’s initial growth. In this week’s newsletter, I’m going over all things NYC recommendations, part 1 only - I have too many things I love to fit into one newsletter - including vintage furniture spots, the best flea markets, and even a little bit on how I source but more on that next week.
Some updates on upcoming projects and event details before we get into the list:
Not A Normal Market: Q2
Markets are coming up and you’re not ready for the levels we’re taking it to. The LA market will be hosted in our LA home, the Arts District and the New York market will be in one of the city’s most iconic storefronts, Barneys! We are taking over the flagship Chelsea store on June 15 & 16th for our second NYC market. This feels like a dream to take over this space that is so intrinsic to New York’s history. Vendor applications open next Monday, 4/29 and we’re currently accepting brands and designers in furniture, home decor, art, apparel, accessories, wellness and beauty products, food and beverages. Make sure to subscribe and follow on Instagram for the most current information about selling at either (or both!) markets.
LA Market: June 8 - 9, Arts District, LA
NYC Market: June 15 - 16, Chelsea, NYC

Estate Sales
If you’ve been here from the beginning, you may remember when we initially announced the in-person estate sale in Newport Beach for our client, Shannon, an amazing interior designer and Founder of Prairie Interiors. It's officially happening! We are closing her 5-bedroom, 4500 sq feet home and her office / warehouse. It will be our best inventory yet, I truly can't wait to share all the details. We are announcing it officially for pre-sale next Friday, May 3rd.
She renovated and designed this home within a month, changing some layout and opening up walls until she turned it into a 90's California meets Spanish-style, sleek, very sexy yet super cozy 5-bedroom space. Here's a sneak peak into what we have:
We always partner with local coffee shops for them to take over the kitchen. As a small business we always try to support other small and local businesses as well. We’re specifically looking to partner with a Newport coffee shop, we’ve already gotten so many amazing recs but if you know anyone send them our way please :) We’re so excited that this sale is ready to go so keep an eye on this space for more information, details, and maybe even a chance to sign up early!
